I have an Xbox 360 and PS3 and have played NCAA 08 and 09 for these systems, but none of the next gen versions of this game compare with the quality, gameplay, and overall feel of NCAA 07 for the PS2. It has the true feel of college football. The gameplay is just about perfect. The graphics are good for a PS2 game, and the animations/movements are very smooth (unlike NCAA 06 for the PS2, which was choppy). The interface, including the scouting, polls, BCS rankings, Sports Illustrated magazine, etc., are all amazing. Hopefully someday EA sports can duplicate the greatness and perfection of this game on the next gen systems. Until then, I keep my PS2 hooked up ONLY to play this game and Madden 06 (which also blows away the next gen Maddens in terms of gameplay)

I picked this game up, after having several NCAA games before and I have to say, what EA did with this one is fantastic! They have made it more tough than previous ones, and the new features they have added are great. Graphic wise, it could not be better. Seeing as right now, there are two newer versions out there, I would say, for the price you can pick this one up for, do it, it is well worth it.

When I began playing this game I had a hard time winning on the All-American difficulty setting, but after a season of taking some lumps I went on to win two consecutive National Championships. I really enjoyed both the in and off season player recruiting, as I got better and more savvy I was able to attract more top players. My 3rd and last season playing at All-American I was really destroying the opposition by 30-40 point margins, culminating with a blow out win in the National Championship. As I had done previously with Madden I felt it was time to “move up” in difficulty level, I had a period of adjustment with Madden but eventually learned how to sustain a drive and exploit weaknesses in the AI and consistently won. On the other hand, when playing a top team in the Heisman mode of NCAA the game is virtually impossible to beat. After three seasons of solid recruits my team rates an A+ on both offense and defense. While to defense holds up decently in Heisman mode the offense is impossible. My o-line with every lineman 90+ overall can’t stop a three man rush…I usually have 2-3 seconds (when I’m lucky) to throw the ball to receivers who can’t get open and who have linebackers out running them. If I do manage to get the ball to them as soon as they make the catch somebody crushes them and the ball comes loose. The passing game is frustrating and it’s impossible to get into any kind of rhythm against a top team. The running game is even worse, unless you run in a non-running situation, like 3rd and 7 out of a shotgun formation, the computer D blows up the run out of the I-formation or goal line sets every time on first and second down. In essence, game play against the top teams in Heisman mode becomes so impossible so as to make the game a boring, frustrating defensive struggle and a battle of field goals. I no longer have fun playing the game but do not want to go back to playing All-American due to the relative ease. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted…the game gave me two competitive seasons, one season that was too easy, and one season of the most unfair and unbalanced AI I have ever seen in a video football game. EA should make an effort to make the Heisman mode more balanced. NCAA football was an interesting foray but I believe better and more fair (relatively speaking) game play is to be had on the All-Madden mode of the Madden 2007.

  5. Henry E. West says:

The 2007 edition of the EA video game franchise has new features, like Campus Legend, where your player decides whether he goes the to the NFL or stay as a college coach, and Spring Drills, where your favorite team square off in a Spring-time scrimmage. Above all else, there are still the same game modes from the previous NCAA Football games like Rivalry Game, Mascot Game, Dynasty and a selection of Div.1-Football Championship Subdivision teams. This is the great video game to pass the time and can be used with only the Madden 2007 game.
